Julia's Perspective:
It was in the middle of a snowstorm. I flew back from Chicago that morning and was so nervous to go on a date with him. He picked me up and met my parents. Then we were off to Dutch bros. I was So nervous for the entire date that I barely spoke. But I knew I liked him a lot. I was excited about the potential of a new relationship. Little did I know where we’d end up.
First Date
Julia's Perspective:
I was so suspicious of him and my entire family. We were set to take graduation photos on Saturday, and I had a feeling it would happen then. Everyone was curious about what I was wearing and my nails. Rivers also is not one to willingly sign up for photos, so I thought something was up. The day he barely spoke to me, I knew he was nervous. I changed out of my first outfit (scrubs) and into my little blue dress. He took me under a walkway, and I completely blacked out to everything he said. I was just as nervous. Then he popped the question, and I said Yes!
Proposal
Rivers' Perspective:
It was early in 2020, and Julia and I have been texting back and forth. We had not met in person yet and so she asked if we wanted to go to Dutch Bros together! We decided on a day and then in a deep snow storm I drove over to her house to pick her up. Her parents required me to meet them first before we went out. I found it a little funny! We got in the car and drove to Dutch bros. I was really focused on driving to make sure we did not crash since the snow was so bad! Our conversations felt more natural and fun than then they did over text. I did feel super nervous since our conversations felt so natural to us! It was small talk, but something about us talking made me not want to stop having our conversations. Even though it felt natural to me, I could 100% tell she was nervous. She smiled almost the whole time, but was hugging the other car door almost the whole time! It made me laugh. After I dropped her back off it didn’t even feel like a question, I wanted to see her again, and thankfully she was on the same page.
Rivers' Perspective:
Now we fast forward to the proposal. OH man was this one of the most nervous times of my life. I had in my head that I was going to propose at some point at the end of 2025, and then one day I decided to let my fear of the unknown go. I started by reaching out to her sister and from there we started brainstorming on ways to keep her OUT of the loop! We were able to pull off buying the ring without anyone knowing and I hid it in a big Lego Hogwarts! I also asked for her parent’s blessing as well. I had become really close with them at this point and this was the first time I had to express my strong love about this to someone else, and I cried pretty hard. We all shared tears and then come up with how we were going to set up the proposal. We planned for it to be for her graduation photos at red rocks! Just a little bit before we found out it there was a concert and switched it to some gardens in Littleton. For the entire week leading up to the photos Julia tried to get me to back out of the photos to test the waters on if I was going to do it. She caught onto a lot of little subtleties that people left behind and figured it out, but she didn’t tell anyone. The day of I spoke no words in the car and tried my hardest to stay cool! We went through every picture and I was getting more nervous by the second! She went to change out of her scrubs and I set up the ring and camera for the big question. When she came back she knew that it was going to be now! We got together for some pictures and I asked her “ Could I ask you something?”. From there I stated that I loved her more than anything on planet Earth and asked her to be my WIFE! She said yes, we were nervous and fumbling stuff all over, a little awkward cause we were so nervous, and then on cloud 9 the rest of the day.
